A lot of you may have seen the news on Monday that Netflix has renewed Big Bang Theory for a third season.
There are some changes to the show’s premise, but it will be the same core of characters.
Netflix has also confirmed the first two episodes of the series will premiere on Netflix on September 25.
The show is currently streaming on Hulu.
While there is no official word on the showrunner yet, we can say the renewal will mark a major departure from the previous seasons, which were produced by the network.
“Big Bang is a character-driven show that tells the story of a small group of people, called Big Bang, who are tasked with solving mysteries that go beyond the boundaries of their reality.
We are excited to share that we will be returning to the core Big Bang concept and returning to a world of aliens, technology, and more,” said Chris McCumber, president of programming for Netflix, in a statement.
In addition to the three new episodes, Big Bang will also get a brand new theme song, new characters, and new story arcs.
“As the story unfolds, Big Bong will encounter his greatest fears and learn the power of friendship,” said series co-creator and executive producer Marc Guggenheim in a post on the official Netflix Blog.
“He will grow closer to the people he has come to call friends, and they will learn to live together as a team.”
While Big Bang is not a reboot of the show from its original five seasons, it does offer a new spin on the characters and new stories.
Netflix is also planning to add a second season of the reboot, but the first one was not renewed.
Netflix also announced on Monday a slate of new original series for 2018, including a comedy series based on the new comic book series Batman.
