Doctor and gaming enthusiast Henry and gamer Mattie Keller are having a laugh over a build they had together for their medical computer.
They had been planning a build of their own since late last year, when they decided to create a medical computer with a Raspberry Pi.
“We just kind of did it because it seemed cool to us,” Mattie said.
The pair’s customised build, called Doctor and Gamer, was designed to be powered by an Arduino mini-computer.
It was built from a Raspberry PI and a custom Arduino board, using an Arduino Uno as its processor.
Mattie and Henry used an Arduino Mega and an Arduino Mini for the power supply and storage of their Raspberry Pi, and their custom board was then powered by the Arduino Mega.
Henry said it was a “fairly simple” project, which involved a simple schematic, and they did not need any expensive parts.
He said he was also surprised at how well the build performed.
I was a bit surprised how well it did, Henry said.
We wanted it to be fun, so I built it.
What we were surprised about was that it worked.
For Mattie, the build came with the challenge of having to find the right Raspberry Pi model.
Her Raspberry Pi Mini was the cheapest, but she needed a Pi 3, and the cheapest Raspberry Pi models were Pi 2s, she said.
The project cost about $100, and it took about a week to complete.
Mattie’s build is now in its fourth year, and she said it had been a great experience.
She said she had a lot of fun making it, and that it has been a bit stressful because of the amount of work that went into it.
“It’s kind of cool how it just sort of came out of nowhere,” she said, adding that it was nice to finally see something come out of a lot more people’s imaginations.
Dr Matthew Laidlaw, from University of Adelaide, said he had no doubt about the build’s success.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.
You can really build something that you can build from scratch and it will perform very well. “
The Raspberry Pi is very flexible, and if you build something with an array of microcontrollers you can probably get it to do a lot, which is awesome.
You can really build something that you can build from scratch and it will perform very well.
Its pretty exciting.”
Dr Laidbeigh added that he was not worried about the success of the build, because it had done well.
“When you build things like this you can’t really gauge what they’re going to do, but it’s good to have it out there, and I think it’s great to see,” he told the ABC.
“People are building their own projects and you know they’re doing that to keep themselves motivated, but also just for fun.”
The Build is a joint project between the Adelaide University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and has raised more than $20,000 in funding to date.
